9/9/11 Contest Update Looking for a scapegoat for the market’s rout today? Forget the Bernank, the POTUS or Rick “Ponzi” Perry. It’s all the fault of ECB honcho Juergen Stark, who managed to get his 15 minutes of infamy by resigning. It’s a shanda noone believed Juergen’s claim that he resigned “for personal reasons.” Despite the broad market’s tsuris, the Nasdaq Biotech Index & Contest median actually gained for the week. At Friday’s close, the NBI was up .59% YTD (vs. down - .53% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was down -5.54% YTD (vs. down -6.46% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -6.97% YTD (vs. down -6.50% YTD a week ago). GENE’s portfolio (up 47.26 % YTD) was still No. 1, while JIBAC’s portfolio (up 37.87%YTD) remained in second place and MCBIO’s portfolio (up 33.77% YTD) inched back into third place. At Friday's close, 14 of the 38 Contest portfolios were still in the black, while 13 of the 38 were beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables). Portfolio adjustments: Pfizer’s $6 tender for ICGN was successful. I set the ICGN price at $6, but will wait until the cash arrives in my real-life account before reallocating the proceeds for Contest portfolios. (Thanks to Contest gurus I bought ICGN in real-life early this year.) Have a wonderful weekend biotechies! (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
