But let me ask you this. If 9 out 10 scientists said an astroid is on course to hit the earth in 2 years and that is how much time we have to build up a way to survive underground and the other 10 percent of scientists said "Naahh--our research shows it will miss us" on which side would you want the Government(s) to err?

If those 10% of scientist can show that the other 90% have flawed logic and data, I'd be listening to the 10%. Especially when it is clear that the 90% have a tendency to exaggerate, such as comparing a fraction of a degree C to an astroid.

But how about, how big is the asteroid? what are the chances that it will actually hit the earth? Is there anything we can do about it?

We can come up with an infinite number of disasters that if described in the worst terms would justify throwing every resource we have at them.

So, if 90% of the scientists claim that the end of the world is just around the corner unless we pay them lots of money to make sure that they stave off the disaster, and if their logic and data is clearly wrong right there on the surface, I'd probably stick with the 10% who are risking their careers by going against the mainstream scientist who are getting rich off of the potential disaster.
