michael,

I might respectfully disagree with Semi Engineer here and say do not underestimate the demand for flip chips and the potential benefit to KLIC from its joint venture. Understand that flip chips are not something that manufacturers are "pushing"; instead the demand is being "pulled" by customers seeking lighter and smaller consumer electronics products. KLIC's CEO's comments echo what I hear from various business people in and around the flip chip arena....

I compare KLIC"s flip chip position say to Creative Technology's recent introduction of the PC-DVD drx2 Drive. Both companies are slightly ahead of the curve right now with their products, but they are both on the edge of new trends which wil accelerate moving into 1998.... Long on KLIC....

Sincerely,

Doug F.
P.S. BTW look also @ SFLX and INVX as additional ECM companies which will benefit from growing flip chip manufacturing. Indeed Needham & CO just issued a "strong buy" on SFLX. Now they may be a little ahead of the curve on SFLX but I feel that Needham has read the trend properly.....
