Sheba, Best Buy is advertising Maxtor Ultra DMA drives as follows:

5.1 gig; $279.00 after rebate

8.4 gig; $399.00 after rebate.

I think for Ultra drives, these prices are terrific and Western Digital doesn't have any Ultra drives available that I can see in the adds. I just bought a Maxtor Ultra DMA 5.1 and look forward to the big jump in hard disk space on my main computer. You have to upgrade the I/O board to get the Ultra DMA capability, but it is backwards compatible to EIDE. The price is very close to an EIDE anyhow, so why not get the better technology?

Comp USA has the Maxtor 3.5 gig EIDE for $179.00; very nice price there also.

I own WDC, but I have been watching Maxtor advertising against WDC's and I have to wonder why anyone would pay more for less?
