Nobody said The British Empire was one of altruism. Nor is VVV about altruism. You are making things up. < I was referring specifically to British expansion in the Victoirian era not being one of altruism..> Perhaps you were confused by the idea of freeing the local yokels. That's not altruism, it's for mutual benefit that people be free. Freeing people from serfitude to join a better gang is good for the gang they join as well as for the individual. It's not altruism. That's in part how Islam spread so far and wide - freeing the local yokels from their evil rulers. It wasn't and still is not altruism for Islam to conduct Islamic Jihad.

BS, if you leave your prejudices behind you'll get meaning much better. It's amazing that you have a problem with being virtuous. Rejection of such ideals is now very fashionable and people are scared of being prudish so they adopt Nigga Rap with enthusiasm to show how broad-minded they are. A race to the bottom and the lowest common denominator. You probably confuse virtue with prudery. Virtue is a good thing BS. The missionaries and British Empire builders were good people [for the most part]. To think they were no better than the empire builders who conducted the attack on Nanking or build Auschwitz "all just pigs with lipstick" shows the paucity of your thinking. Be careful, because those who don't defend freedom and virtue likely end up with neither. You should learn to praise The British Empire and Alan Greenspan KBE. Then you'll be happily on the way to eudaimonia.

Meanwhile, Gareth Morgan has proposed an Unconditional Basic Income entitlement for NZ which is a bit like a Tradable Citizenship dividend and could lead to adoption of such a property right. gmi.co.nz That looks like a good idea to me.
