I won't claim to know anything about NETL's business, but a glance at their Yahoo stat page shows that their TTM revenues were $403m, yoy revenue growth was under 10%, and gross profit was slightly over $200m. Apparently they had writeoffs that turned that gross profit into a loss of $33m.

Somehow, $3.7b seems like a steep price to pay for that, although analysts comments have been favorable and Broadcom claimed that the acquisition would add .10/share profit next year to their bottom line. It seems very odd to me, though.
