I appreciated reading your very visual -- and stomach-turning -- description. At least the French won't have to see these "french fries," given that Burger King decided to concede that country to McDonald's.

Interestingly, last week's Newsweek included an article on McDonald's. The article noted the plethora of negative articles on MCD, and suggested that these were overblown. (Frankly, those negative articles helped convince me that the stock price may have hit a bottom.)

In any event, from what I have read, McDonald's has a promising development in the company's new technological system for preparing food "just in time" or cooked to order. This system, which is being implemented in new restaurants and will require retrofitting older ones, appears to create better-tasting food. Apparently the customers where the pilot systems have been tested are pleased with the taste.

The system will take some time to be implemented nationally, but ultimately may help regain some of the market share lost to Burger King. Yet, as the Newsweek article pointed out, even without regaining that share, MCD's still overwhelming dominates the U.S. fast-food hamburger market.
