The economy and the jobs numbers were in free fall when the stimulus hit. GDP began going back up (although GDP is not a terrific measure of how the economy is really doing), and the jobs numbers did get better; just not as much better than the administration said they would. But, if you recall, that's really what many economists said would happen (and what I thought, too), because the stimulus wasn't big enough. But that's what you'd expect would happen when you try to fill a $2 trillion hole in demand with a stimulus package that, depending on how you figure, is only 20-40% that large.

And no, I don't think that Obama's current jobs proposal is enough, either. But I'd rather see some improvement than none at all -- it's people's livelihoods on the line here.
