I Keep a message that I want to think about or read again or more carefully.

Messages I want to save, I file in a folder with an appropriate name using
Manage your Folders&Files.

Kept Public Messages should be a near-the-surface group of messages that eventually get "processed" and deleted
or filed
using Manage your Folders&Files.

Messages > Keep > File

Keep is like a false Mark Unread to put an email back to bold to remind you to read it (and do something with it).

When I file a message, I don't want it on the Keepers page.

I don't need to see the Keepers suitcase all the time; I'd prefer a choice to hide it. The keys hanging make it look unused like in a showroom. Anyone could pick up the suitcase and walk away with it. So it is temporary, not permanent.

I don't need to see the number of Kept messages; it's a constant reminder to get back to those messages to think about them. But the number never changes unless I do something to make it change.

SI has a long-standing "message" about Mail that a number in parentheses means new incoming message(s) or unread mail, that I haven't looked at yet or Removed. The similar (n) for Keepers is confusing because they have been looked at, are not new, and are extremely unlikely to be urgent or time-sensitive or contain market moving information.

So for me, I'd rather not have the number of Keepers displayed.

I want to hit SubjectMarks and not be distracted.
