I am going to guess that most SI members bookmark their SubjectMarks page rather than the homepage. I do. But when it comes down to it, of the 100+ subjects I have bookmarked, only a handful have activity at any given time, meaning I ignore 80% of the screen. What would be an interesting group project would be to design a homepage useful to members such that people would want to bookmark it instead. I would have the top section be similar to the active subjects part of SubjectMarks. Ideas for other sections could be today's hot subject, a few select headlines of the day, market indices, or perhaps even a Yahoo-like list of the activity of stocks one is following (as opposed to a full blown portfolio). Then have the page auto-refresh every X minutes so you can see at a glance if you have any new activity you might want to check out. SubjectMarks itself would remain unchanged.
