Given the way our economy is set up, demand should be as high as it takes to keep people working consistently, eating, and having shelter and security.

It's what the American economy is built on, for better or for worse. And there are tried-and-true ways to manipulate it for the benefit of actual human beings. The world is a shittier place when so many people are suffering. But it doesn't seem like those people are anywhere near the top of your priority list. They're up at the top of mine.
