Gee, I wonder why they don't want to make their stuff in California, despite lots of blue-collar towns like Fresno really needing the work. Maybe it's because California has such a hostile business climate?

Don't be silly...Alabama is supposedly not and we have the same problem....just about anything consumer and electronics is now made in Asia...and if not completely made there, most of not all of the components are.

Meanwhile, I hear about plant openings and manufacturing job growth in the southern states. They have right-to-work laws and a regulatory environment that are more friendly to businesses.

Dude...our unemployment rate is just as bad...look for yourself...then make sense of the data based on the remark you just made...one example...MA at 7.4%...now would you call that a tax friendly state? The truth is that y'all have built up this image of things in your respective minds and facts go to hell...

But the priority should be jobs first. We can "redistribute" later.

Jobs is an effect not a cause...your sentence seems to put things backwards.

There is precious nothing in your post that addresses the problems we have...whatever manufacturing is left in the US is impeded hurt by lower demand relative to the recent past...that is not up for dispute. We have come through a serious financial meltdown, a housing decline, tremendous stock market volatility and we suffer from unbridled cynicism about government. Guess what these things do to consumer confidence?
