>My response: Get our fiscal house in order. That forms the foundation of consumer confidence. Most people have no idea what the deficit or debt actually is. Why would that have anything to do with consumer confidence unless it were drummed into their heads over and over. What they know is that many people around them don't have jobs, that they're not getting raises, that they're paying for more of their own benefits, that they don't have real pensions, and that their own livelihoods aren't terribly secure. If you thought you had a good chance of losing your job in the next six months, would you make major purchases? -Z
