LX, BX, PIIX3, all BGA's. Almost all of the main ASIC's on a motherboard are high pin count BGA's now. Slot1 is just the slot and card edge connector. The CPU itself on the card is BGA. So your premise is incorrect, BGA's are everywhere. So anyway Paul, my point is not to try and prove I know more about engineering than you or anything like that. You sound like an experienced engineer. My point is that the challange of designing PC motherboards is increasing in complexity at an exponential rate. Take a look at one of Dell's workstation boards, it's pretty amazing. PC MB design is viewed upon as "easy" by the general engineering public. I interview experienced guys all the time who think it's a cake walk. They generally get their a--es kicked within a month by an overwhelming number of factors, become humbled and develop a new respect for the discipline. My other point is, Dell is'nt just a low-tech screw-turnin JIT box maker. They design all of their high end products and only OEM some of the cheap/consumer stuff. They have a very large Product Group organization with many engineers. So you work for IBM huh? MEATHEAD
