Cable modem is ethernet in disguise. Its about 20 mbps per data channel for speed. Maixmum is 480 mbps of 24 data channels. Its wired, so that if you have more than1 computer per household, it becomes a big job to wire all of them up using ethernet cards.

So people generally will put up a gateway router on the cable modem.

Unfortunately, too many households will put up too many wifi data channels. This creates jamming of encrypted data in 11 channels normally used. So far CableTV business did not have too much penetration into internet service. I can receive 16 hotspots from my home. And it could be a lot more hotspots.

The development is currently in wifi traffic control using browsers. The purpose is to use virtual wifi network to reduce total number of wifi data channels in any locale. People, upto 3000 per community wifi gateway router, will share instead of cable modem, the 3000 wifi subscriptions.

This is the only way to saturate WiFi traffic and have full control of data integrity and security(Mac address video encryption). Cable modems will be retired. Gateway routers will be set up on the telephone poles. Each customer may have as many subscriptions for as many computers owned.

This will make cabletV compatible with ipTV and no reducing revenues from internet service per computer.
