When a message is saved in the database, the timestamp is based on the current time of the server that is saving it. When a message is retrieved from the database, it is displayed however the programmer wants it to be, which in the case of SI is EST. Therefore, if an option is added to allow members to view messages in their own local time, this conversion would have to be done on a sitewise basis for that user, visible only to that user.

As to what the user would see, that's for Brad to figure out. For example, would the user like to see both times for reference? E.g.

Message #573 from Sr K at 9/22/2011 9:07:50 PM [9/23/2011 1:07:50 AM Local]

Or just the local time, e.g.

Or does Brad simply allow an abundance of choices?
