9/23/11 Contest Update
Right on schedule, it’s that season again. Halloween shops are springing up all over town and stocks are already into their scary fall fall.
At Friday’s close, the NBI was up 1.61% YTD (vs. up 4.80% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was down -8.88% YTD (vs. down -1.66% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -6.39% YTD (vs. down -1.15% YTD a week ago).
GENE’s portfolio (up 42.01 % YTD) is still No. 1, with JIBAC’s portfolio (up 36.72% YTD) in second place and MCBIO’s portfolio (up 27.93% YTD) retaking third place.
A 35% swoon by MNTA, the Contest’s top stock pick, put a good many of the portfolios into negative territory for the year. So, at Friday's close, only 11 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black, while just 9 of the 38 were beating the NBI.
