I'm not so sure about year-end tax selling as you, EKS. It seems to me people are taking their losses now as the stock market falls. I am, anyway. I'll guess many people are just saying to themselves, why wait for the loss at year-end-- take it now before the market drops further.

I show the BKH shares I have were bought at $17.47 (3/30/'09), $19.66, $29.76, $29.14 (8/25/11). I've an order in for a bit more at $28+.
