Cry me a river! Our role as world cop is due to end. Let's join the community of every other nation that doesn't HAVE a military capable of reaching the other side of the globe to strike, say, Afghanistan or Iraq. When THEIR citizens see horrors in other parts of the world, they weep, and know it's NOT their problem, because there's nothing they can do. WE'RE the only country that DOES wars anymore, other than civil wars. We live in the safest nation on Earth. Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, a heavily armed, semi-crazy populace - NO ONE is going to invade the US. The real question is WHY have we kept such a bloated military, so long after the end of the Cold War?
