Where I work, there is no distinction between sick days and personal days. I get 15 days a year whether it's for illness or vacation. Same for son, who also is a lawyer working for a small company. Not all that generous but such is private employment for small companies in the US.
Husband, who works for the federal government, there is a distinction between sick leave, which can be taken for self or to care for family, and personal leave. Sick leave can carry over indefinitely, forever, personal leave is use it or lose it. When he retires, sick leave counts towards time in grade, no compensation, but personal leave, if you did not use it, you get paid for it. He gets 4 hours a biweek sick leave. He's been there more than 15 years, so gets 8 hours personal leave a biweek.
Not at all uncommon difference between private employment and public employment in the US.
Me, I'd kill to get 8 hours personal leave a biweek. Five weeks a year. That's a lot of time off.
I work so hard that I am getting burned out. So worn out that I have my first cold in years. I need a vacation. |
