The question is "What is the only (hence the best by default) technology for MS' Windows applications development, and object reuse". MS owns WIndows. They are making sure that COM is the best Windows model (much to my chagrin). But, over time, Gates refusal to adapt open standards is certianty that MS will have a large, declining role of importance in the computer industry (kind of like the glory days of Big Blue).
In the mean time, we are doing major NT developoment. COM is working fine in the areas for which it was originally designed. ATL makes for fine OCX development, and we do not use VB at all. As we migrate our platform to the rest of the world, we are looking at Java and CORBA. |
