<cell capacity expected to increase by 50% over 2011 levels>
I keep on reading statements like that, but I haven't found any statements from Tier 1 company guidance to back it up. I also haven't found any list, of what companies are going to increase capacity by how much, to back up this conclusion, about large capacity increases in 2012.
The other issue is obsolete capacity, or capacity using failed technologies. Q-cells has about 500MW of capacity in Europe, using old equipment. It is shut down now, and they are trying to sell it (no takers, so far). Solyndra, and others in a similar situation, have cell-producing capacity, and warehouses full of inventory. But none of that should really be counted, because it's all just junk, soon to be written off. |
