3COM unveils CoreBuilder 9000 switch encroaches on Cisco's high-end switches & routers 3COM CORP will unveil what it claims will be the fastest networking switch in the industry and a big boost in its rivalry with CISCO SYSTEMS INC. 3Com said it will introduce the CoreBuilder 9000, a device that controls the flow of information among computers in a corporate setting. The new switch has up to four times the capacity of similar products from rivals, 3Com said. Analysts said the device would fill a big hole in 3Com's product line. 3Com specializes in low-end networking gear such as modems and adapter cards for PCs.
