I drove a 1962 Corvair for years. It was a dangerous little thing but it was cheap.
I pooh-poohed Nader back then. But he actually was right. Handled horribly on the interstate.
But since it floated around like a kite, at age 19, I thought it was fun.
I finally put two concrete blocks in the front end trunk which stabilized it. But that caused a drop
in gas mileage.
The Corvair was rear-engined and had rear wheel drive. Not front wheel.
I know many Corvair lovers hold a grudge against Nader for his criticisms. Not me.

I had a perfect track record back then. I bought a Ford Pinto hatchback for $1995.
Man was that a horrible car. Nader also correctly pointed out it was dangerous.

The Pinto had the dubious distinction of being on several 'all time worst car' lists.
But it was cheap. And for a soldier just re-entering civilian life in a low paying job,
it filled the bill. My next car was a Chevy Impala V-8. Did 136 miles an hour. I suppose
you might say I over reacted to the Pinto :)
