Because of the 3.1 gram grade, and sea coast, no permafrost situation, they could operate all year round at US $400 gold. One of the secrets was Cambior being a CN company was getting $600 CDN per oz. Still, one wonders how they could even find it under 200 feet of overburden. This would stop most people no matter the grade. After all they had to move 11 cubic yards for one CY of pay. This is 30,000 CY per day. At $40 US per CY, of pay and 3.33/yard for all yards that meant the cost to move, dispose, wash and close had to be less than $ 1.67/CY for the company to consider it. $50K per day. 155 workers. hmmmm ok. maybe. How they did it to keep the feed unfrozen I would like to know. There is not much snow and the wind up there must be a caution. I know they used steam pipes, but did they expose a whole pile of muck and then steam it all over the winter, or did they do just in time delivery? I guess the latter would be too risky as the exposed feed layer would freeze quick unless they left a blanket on it.
