<<I don't know about Ayn's compassion but my compassion is tempered by considering the decisions an individual has made to bring them to the circumstances they are in. Decisions regarding having children and having them out of wedlock. Decisions on how they vote and their political persuasion greatly affect a persons current circumstance. If you learned that conservatives were happier wouldn't you want to be conservative?

When I talk about compassion, I am talking about the basics. I am talking about having concern for anyone who is suffering though no fault of their own. The compassion for the slave, or the peasant and serfs of days gone by, or people/children who work/ed in sweatshops, the old and crippled, or the person being bullied, racism, sexism, gay bashing, mistreatment of animals.

And it has nothing to do with guilt. I have very little guilt problems. It has to do with a person living a life of basic human decency.

As I said, compassion and kindness should be a truism we shouldn't even need to discuss.
