<<I've read that any advantage accrued through Head Start disappears pretty quickly, around 3rd grade (if I remember correctly) the test results for Head Start kids is the same as for non-Head Start kids of the same socio-economic background, so that one apparently is a feel good day care program.

I don't believe that for a second. I would like to see those reports.

Kids are ready to start learning big time at about 2.5 years. At least half time. You put a kid in head start and they will be a solid year ahead of non pre school kids by kindergarten in most cases. Boy anyone who thinks early education is useless is dead wrong.

In fact they keep finding out kids can learn much more at earlier and earlier ages. If a kid hits kindergarten ready to go intellectually, the rest of school is pretty much a piece of cake as they have learned how to learn and have confidence.

I had both my kids in Montesorrie at 2.5 years. And it put them light years ahead of the other new kids in kindergarten. Only becasue they had learned so much.

We are lagging much of the world in education because we do not support our schools enough or respect education.
