jorj and grusum9, Paul clearly thinks Americans are inherently too stupid for the high paying non-manufacturing jobs,
The Wall Street Journal and other media sources have numerous times stressed that many corporations have the high skill set positions, but do not have qualified individuals with the proper skill sets to fill the positions. This does not indicate that they are stupid-just lack the proper skill sets.
so we have to import in brainy foreigners to do those jobs, but the brainy foreigners are going to leave anyway.
Correct!
yes, they're going to leave because we're going to be too poor to get them to come over here or keep them here. we're headed in that direction right now.
Correct! Or possibly, they just want to get back to their own culture and families. However, they are returning to their own country with the knowledge that we could use in order to sustain our own economy. Then, they can go into competition with us.
He also believes that the stupid americans are asking for excessive compensation and this is causing jobs to move overseas where it is cheaper.
Again, no!! Americans are not stupid as you have stated. They just lack the proper skill sets for the positions! IMO, Unions in the manufacture sector were able to increase the salaries and benefits of the manufacturer worker and the middle class and created a high standard of living in the US. Now, we must compete globally against lower wages and benefits. And, our companies are building manufacture plants outside the US.
well, there's more to it than that, but i'd have to partially agree with him here. the bottom line is that employers will go to where ever they can maximize profit. but if we didn't have such high taxes and onerous regulations, most of the jobs would stay here due to the high efficiency of our labor.
I agree with your statement, "employers will go where they can to maximize profits!" We stockholders invest accordingly after reading corporate EPS's and future projections. |
