| We wouldn't need to thwart much of it if people ate right, exercised, and took vitamin D. If everyone did those three things, we'd have huge resources to help the people who got cancer despite a good diet, exercise regime, and appropriate vitamin intake. I'm not blaming the victims- I don't blame people for not eating right, since it's hard to know what you should eat. We're all different- and I suspect we all need to be on quite different diets. It's taken me years to figure out exactly what keeps me in tip top health- and I wish I'd known years ago, because I would have eaten the way I eat now. We need a lot more emphasis on blood testing for dietary deficiencies and problematic foods. Somehow people think that's too expensive- so we end with a lot of diet related illnesses killing and maiming people, and sapping their productivity, and a zillion cranks in the diet business telling people there is a one size fits all answer, if folks will just buy their book. It's all so stupid. If we could just have a bit more science, a bit less hype, and a lot less dogmatism about finding a one size fits all approach, and some more nuance, we'd make a lot of people healthier and happier. End of rant. Probably won't happen- Mr. Market is too happy with folks being desperate, fat and sick- much easier to sell them drugs and diet books. Where's the incentive for any large market movement toward better health using such commodities as vitamins and decent food? |
