>Often it discourages risk-taking. Why go out and get a job if unemployment rewards extended periods of non-work?

Would you give up your job for $400 a week to not work for a year or two? How long would you be able to pay your mortgage on that, which I believe is the maximum? I'm not saying that there's no one who doesn't decide to take unemployment for a while because they don't want to find a job (i've met a couple), but that number of people is so miniscule compared to the number of people that just can't find one, and probably quite a bit less than the number of people who stay in dead-end jobs because they're afraid to lose their benefits.

>That's debatable, but I'm pretty sure liberals want people to believe that.

It really isn't. I'm watching it happen right in front of my eyes. People losing jobs, people having their pay cut, people losing benefits, not being able to advance their careers. Good, smart, educated, hard-working people. Much worse than five years ago (which wasn't great), and certainly worse than 15 years ago, when it seemed everyone around me was getting dream jobs.

What bubble are you living in?
