You're looking at the culture of entitlement spreading throughout academia. Just because these people got into upper-tier schools with tuitions reaching $30K/year, they assume there are jobs with above-average salaries just waiting for them, and all they have to do is graduate with some sort of degree. Even many Ivy Leaguers believe that.

And most of their professors aren't helping. In fact, all they do is teach them to just be "free thinkers." That's nice for society, but too many students graduate college without having any training for the real world. Then they figure out, "OMG, you mean I actually have to work and pay taxes? How come my $120K humanities degree isn't paying for the lifestyle I dreamed of?"
