I heard a great interview on PBS last night about colleges. Discussing how expensive it has gotten. The debate alone was insane IMO. There is now debate about streamlining colleges so that a person can get a streamlined $10,000 BS/BA (skip Socrates). A person should be able to get a college education for free paid for by the state, IMO.

And I thought most of the talk was just crazy talk, indicative of our times e.g. some were saying some kids could just take more classes or work harder and faster. Others were talking about how we can skip learning about Socrates.

Finally one professor said, "the importance of college is learning about Socrates"; but it shows how far we have come down the road of insanity.

First and foremost, college is about Socrates. After you learn about socrates, then you can be a doctor or plumber or whatever. But first learn about Socrates.

In Denmark, and other civilized countries the state pays for college up through a PHD. Free, and take as long as you want. Education should be a lifetime experience and after universal health care and jobs, our number one priority. It is how we define our civilization.

My ex's and I paid about $250,000, including out of state tuition and room and board for each kid. We had the money, but every kid should be able to avail themselves of the education they got.

Good lord, what is wrong with us?
