In the US, we achieved my kind of capitalism and it has made us the wealthiest country the world has ever seen. But now, just as we have lost faith in our basic freedoms and have traded them away for the illusion of more security, we are now trading away our prosperity and our free markets for socialism and the illusion of economic security that brings. Not only that but Socialism is insidious. It literally steals from the future to pay for the present. That is exactly what Social Security does. Ultimately, Socialism grows like a cancer until it displaces private enterprise and you end up with a nanny state. Greece is the end state of Socialism's growth. 75% of Greeks are employed by the state and they can't afford those salaries anymore because there's no one earning enough money to pay taxes to pay for the government employees. Socialism is a closed system. All closed systems eventually collapse.
You say you're not an R. You say you're not a teaper. Yet, you talk just like they do. The argument you use is the same argument the Rs have used to keep the rest of us in line for decades. You all hold the threat of socialism or communism over our heads like they are exotic diseases for which there is no cure. Its all nonsense.
I keep referring you to Germany and you keep ignoring those references. Germany is the nanny state you so fear......and yet, it has one of the most dynamic, capitalist economies in the world. In fact, I think its better than our economy.......at least right now. They export more than we do......and almost as much as China. There is much less poverty in Germany and their lifespan is longer. Their healthcare is generally better than ours because most of the population can take advantage of it.......unlike here. Are their downsides to their system? Of course no system is perfect.....but all in all, when you crunch the numbers, Germany looks damn good. If that's what you fear, then you are like a child fearing the boogeyman.
I am an educated American who has traveled abroad. I won't buy into the pablum the Rs feed the masses here.......and that includes Ron Paul's rhetoric. Sorry, MM, you seem like a throwback to another era. |
