Germany is most definitely the least socialist of the European nanny states.

No they are not the least socialist. In fact, they are typical of Europe.

They have an incredible industrial base and have been darned good at making products the world wants.

So has Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and yes, even France. Denmark is one of the most prosperous nations in the world at the present time. Sweden had some trouble ten years ago but has reversed course and is doing very well. France leads the world in nuclear energy production, the building of trains, and medical supplies. Norway is doing the best of the lot because they have oil.

All these countries have citizens who enjoy a level of prosperity we can only dream about. What they don't have a lot of is a bunch of Kim Kadashians, Paris Hiltons, the Lebron Jameses, or the typical American CEO running around.........over the top rich who spend money like its candy and flaunt their lifestyles as the rest of us struggle.
People aren't protesting because they are slackers. They are protesting because they are scared and angry.

They are a great example of how capitalism works. Yes, they have more far reaching socialist programs than we do, but they have managed to keep that in check and balance that out with a thriving private sector. Greece is the other end of the spectrum.

I wouldn't mind the US keeping a healthy balance like Germany. But I sure as well would mind us becoming more like Greece. I fear we've already become more like Greece than Germany. Our spending and our debt has become unsustainable.

In terms of what you call socialism, we are no where near Germany let alone Greece. We are the most stingy western nation when it comes to its own people. We spend trillions on wars and defense, allow the rich to pocket huge sums of money and screw the average American. Do you really think the people protesting in the streets are stupid college kids? Behind everyone of those 'kids' are ten Americans shaking their heads yes. Hell, there are doctors in this country who feel guilty and occasionally hold clinices in cities across the country......usually in stadiums and provide physicals to the poor pro bono. Have you seen how big the crowds are attending these public spectacles? Its an embarrassment that a country as wealthy as this one does not provide decent, minimal health care to its people like the other civilized nations of the world do.

Why? We have the Rs and Mr. Paul to thank on that one. And screw you that you want to abandon SS and Medicare for the old. Screw you, MM.

And going back to Greece..........Greece got into the EU because it fudged its books. Greece has few assets and has relied on tourism and public employment to stay afloat. People were allowed to retire at 55. The country is broke......its like Eastman Kodak. The US is far from broke. In fact, comparing the US to Greece is like comparing Einstein to a monkey.
