You know what is funny about the list of countries in Europe you suggested were the most prosperous? They are all Northern and Germanic. Hmmm. Seems like something is wrong in the South of Europe.

France is not nordic and its doing okay. Having said that, N. European countries have held that same bias over S. Europe for decades. The truth is they are two different cultures......the South is much more easy going and enjoys the good life....la dolce vita. Its why tourists prefer the South over the North.

And lets not forget Spain had the best budgetary outlook when the economic crisis started in 2008 and was not running deficits like the nordic countries. Where Spain got into trouble was over a housing bubble similiar to the one in the US........which has undermined its major banks.

But when all is said and done, the nordic nations run a tighter ship. In fact, Italy is a frigging mess......always has been; always will be.

And they are all socialists by your standards. ;-)
