MM...thanks for your thoughtful response. The gap between good ideas and their feasibility in our current political climate is oceans wide. You've got some great ones but they will not be concretized in this moment of our history. It's a painful thing to accept.

We can chip away at them though....

Your passion for this subject reminds me of my passion for children's rights and adolescent violence in the 80s/90s. It got to the point where I had to accept that it is going to happen....and some legislators, police officers, DA's, etc., won't give a damn. But being persistent over the long haul, reducing the rate at which it happens helped change things for the better in the 90s....Biden's Family Violence Prevention Act is something we at Childrens Hospital heavily influenced and supported. Some of our activist pediatricians basically wrote parts of it...

This leaves me thinking about what to do, what can we do, within the framework we have, the hyperpartisanship that we have regarding how our banking system and economy is managed. Obama can't even get his own caucus to close loopholes on the oil companies because these folk are bought and sent to DC to do their bidding.

How do we get big business money out of the pockets of our legislators?----this is a major root of the problem that began decades ago and Citizens United gave them a steroid level boost.

I'd love to see a setup where money is collected to go to a "political campaign fund" to be used for elections.............no private money above $50.. The TV and radio stations giving equal airtime to candidates. Debates sponsored by non-partisan stations.

More later----it's beautiful in these parts today and I'm going to soak up the last warm vestiges of summer.

I love what the OccupyWallStreet folks are doing...speaking for millions who can't go to these demonstrations...I'm quite grateful to them.

Thanks again for taking the time to talk to me about al this.....
