Saw the announcement about Raiders' owner Al Davis passing. The article had this line:

When he fired Mike Shanahan in 1988 after 20 games as head coach, he refused to pay him the $300,000 he was owed.

When the Raiders were in LA back in the 80s, their practice facility was across the street at the old Middle School. He had a contract with the city of El Segundo for the use of the facility and spent a lot of money on renovations. The city approved the changes on the condition that when the Raiders left, they would return the facility to its previous configuration.

Davis trashed the place and did not live up to his end of the contract leaving the city with $2 million in damages. The city fathers considered suing him but quickly realized it would cost them $2 million in lawyers fees so they had to eat the cost.

RIP Al
