I'm more intrigued that you think that Bartlett and Krugman would be on the same page though. .......In today's economic complexity, it is way to impossible to put all those claiming keynesian roots into the same category. For instance I believe one of Bartletts main tenets is a VAT or sales tax of some kind. I wholeheartedly agree with that idea, but expect Krugman would find such a tax very distasteful. Krugman's keynesian ideas is flood with big deficit spending by government; a VAT tax by contrast is likely to lower consumption because prices will be going up.

Wouldn't the VAT have the exact opposite effect of what Roosevelt did in the 30's? Then we were on the gold standard - which made currency manipulation easier - and Roosevelt over night devalued the dollar by changing the conversion rate from just barely over 20 to 35. Sooooo all of a sudden people's money went further - whereas with a VAT it wouldn't go as far.
