Technically speaking things look OK (and just OK) to me. Gold broke up out of a ascending triangle and is grinding slowly upward in a narrow range with the usual bumps along the way. A V bottom would have been nice, but no love there and unfortunately like you have been saying the critical fights are still ahead.
