I just bought a book on Candlestick charts, Beyond Candlesticks, by Steve Nison. It's copyrighted 1994, so it's not a new book, but it looks pretty good.
The second half of the book discusses several charts types which are apparently popular in Japan but I've never heard of them. They're Kagi, Renko, and Three-Line Break charts, and the author says that this book introduces these chart types to western investors. (This is the same guy who introduced candlesticks to western investors, so I guess he knows.) Now, 3-4 years later, it seems like they still haven't caught on.
Does anyone know of a free charting service which can produce these charts? I'd like to look at my own stocks while I go through the examples, and see if these charts would have helped me in the past.
Failing that, does anyone know of a good source of historical prices which includes the date, high, low, open, and close in a spreadsheet or table format? It would be best if this is free, of course.
If these charts are useful, and I can get free historical data, I'll look into generating the charts on my website.
