Hi Pat,
Texas Instruments, probably better than anyone including Amati, knows what the market for this DMT chip is. They know what the profits for the software development/upgrades will be. The fact that they have bought Amati, despite already essentially owning the chip, is a ringing endorsement of those projected profits. They paid $20 because that's all they had to pay on 11-19-97. If the other big guys wake up and realise the implications of TI's offer, I think we may see some more bidding. Even if a Lucent didn't win in a bidding war, why let TI get a tasty morsel for so cheap. GTE made Worldcom go hock the family gold fillings to be able to afford MCI. Let's see someone else put TI through the ringer before this one is over (ie. it ain't over till the fat chip maker screaches!)- though I do respect TI as a talented company.
Hope your Nov. Calls worked out,
Regards,
Richard
PS Will there be a stock holders' meeting before this is over? We should have a large Amati New Year's party for the thread, as it passes on in '98. I think RC and JS should spring for it, since you can't buy this type of marketing ;^) ! |
