I just watched an old Bruce Willis movie called "Tears of the Sun," which depicted Navy Seals on a rescue mission in Nigeria.

That was enough to convince me that messing around in Africa is a really, really, bad idea. Americans just do not understand much at all about the continent of Africa. We don't understand the politics, we don't understand the tribalism, and we don't understand the sheer size of the place.

The missionaries depicted in that movie thought they were helping but they weren't, really. Many of them got themselves wiped out, which isn't all that removed from reality down there.
