Paul - Re: "Cyrix will unveil two reference designs at COMDEX.."

What? No customers to endorse these products?

Check out Compaq, UMAX, DELL, HP, IBM, .... and their Comdex announcements.

You will find them DEMONSTRATING AND announcing new products based on Intel Pentium/Pentium II products.

In fact, it looks like Compaq has chosen another approach for 'home entertainement systems", this one using a product from Intel:

Mpact DVD Chosen for Compaq PC Theatre

Mpact Media Processor Enables Home Theatre-Quality DVD for Compaq's PC Theatre

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1997-- Chromatic Research Inc. today announced that Compaq Computer
Corp. [NYSE:CPQ - news] has chosen Mpact (TM) media processor technology to provide true, home theatre-quality DVD
video and audio as a standard feature in its Compaq (R) PC Theatre 9100 Product.

The low-cost, software-upgradable Mpact media processor works in conjunction with the Compaq PC Theatre's Intel (R)
Pentium CPU with MMX technology.
The results are DVD movies, games and other interactive DVD content that provide the
smoothest, crispest, brightest and most colorful video, together with richest digital surround sound available.

In addition to its exceptional power and quality, Mpact DVD is unique among DVD accelerators because it is
software-upgradable. New DVD features could potentially be added through future software upgrades, protecting the user's
investment. "

Looks like Cyrix has developed a product and is now trying to find a customer. - their one big fish (Compaq) has gotten away.

By the way, I assume you don't know how to use a slide rule - probably just one of many technical abilities that you lack. I can appreciate your jealousy for those with technical capabilities.
