KSA bans export of water and ice

by Michael Palmer on Oct 17, 2011

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has banned the export of water from the country, including ice, in an attempt to keep local supplies well stocked.

According to an Arab News report, the Council of Ministers had previously approved a project to set up water factories where exports of water and ice were banned and the Shoura Council, through its utilities committee, has also banned the export of water and ice.

Outlets across the Kingdom will begin to apply the new rules immediately, and one source has said that some water companies are coordinating an effort to prepare an MOU to dispute the decision, and ask for time to compensate for a shortfall in revenue.
