To All, Bear Stearns estimate of .17 is correct as per the report by their analyst Eric Blachno (who likes COMS and respects their management). Its based upon his idea of what the company could come out with IF they decide to take charges for this excess level of inventory representing 300 million - 400 million worth of NICS and modems to clear the channel. He is outlining the worst case scenario and strangely enough he and I bet others in Wall Street will be glad if 3Com does that so that there no further gremlins regarding this matter forever. The Big boys absolutely hate uncertainty and that is why they are rewarding Cisco. COMS and ASND have sucked big time this year mainly because of uncertainty and lack of visibility because of mergers (big ones) and product transitions.
If 3Com does come out with a charge pre-ann then the stock will tank for the short term but I think it will not go below 27 5/8 as that represents about 15x (historic bottom PE in times of uncertainty) their C98 earnings of around $1.85 (lowest Calendar 98 earnings est. on the street today).
I know its hard but buy low, sell high and think longer term.
