Too many on this thread are concerned with the profits of the competitors. Why should that matter if you are an Intel investor? It still adds up as loss of market share.

Cyrix and AMD are not profitable, but are not going under either. They are selling into the retail channel well and gaining. Next year they will be in the corporate market. For every K6 or M2 that sells, its one less processor for Intel. Reports are that Intel lost 4% market share last quarter.

IDT is another competitor which could erode the market share. Their C6 chip power requirements make it very attractive for notebooks.
