Energy select committee MP John Robertson calls for billion-pound fines on power companies Ofgem should use its powers to fine electricity and gas suppliers billions of pounds for uncompetitive behaviour, an MP on the energy select committee has urged.

The MP's radical call comes after a round of price increases of up to 16pc in electricity and up to 20pc in gas, contributing to higher than expected inflation of 5.1pc.
