Agree with you on your statement re: HWP & CPQ - they can definitely exist next to each other very well.

I feel that maybe HWP was smart in opening up the Merced technology in the sense that they now have an in-road into the internal architecture of the next generation micro-P.

That's quite an advantage. If you remember, CPQ assisted intel greatly in the development of the Pentium (1993/4), and then was not even chosen as the platform on which the announcement happened. It went so far that CPQ let intel use their labs for testing! I am sure Steve will only be able to confirm this...

I think HWP is on the right track in the engineering sense, however, I am not sure if they will be able to accomplish No. 1 in PC sector by 2001.

Good discussion, great input, and wait a couple more years and your kids will be bugging you for a WebTV if they aren't already!
