TV won't be "cracked" by Apple until it can control the primary HDMI port.

Making me change "source" for the content I want is like asking me to scan a Q code to get the web page I want. So perhaps the best reason for Apple to make a TV is to seamlessly integrate IOS content with live source. You can't beat a free cable or satellite box, but you can take it over if you put yourself between it and the screen.
