LOL, that's what I'm hearing too...from the REIT fairy
I make it a point to keep an eye on area malls, and probably have about 25-30 within an hour radius, plus the endless strip centers, many sitting half vacant.
Other than the high end malls and retailers and some restaurants, everything else is dead
Anyone obligating themselves personally to $50-100 sf ft rent is nuts
I can pretty much guarantee these new leases are being put on shareholders' backs, as most(90-95%) mall retailers are publicly owned or private equity(aka OPM)
The person signing the lease has little skin in the game
